WHAT IS SACRED SEX?

As a teacher of Tantra as well as of Conscious Relationship, my point of view is that all relationships are inherently spiritual, all sex is inherently sacred. When we bring the light of conscious awareness to our intimate life, we experience the Presence of the Divine. From the Tantric point of view, God, (or any other word you prefer to represent Divine Creation) creates sex as a path to realize our own Divine Nature. Just as the clear waters of loving relationship get muddied with our "pictures," our preconceived expectations and agendas, so it is with our sexual experiences.

Our attachment to any particular outcome will always lead us to lack of Presence. The fundamental quality of Spiritual Sex is Presence, expressing through the body what the Buddha called "beginner's mind." Tantric practices train us to be fully present during sex and to use the powerful energy of our sexuality to connect with our partner at the heart level. It is possible, with practice, to move from there into realms where both bodies seem to dissolve and merge with the Divine, the ever-present Eternal Love beyond all thought. Our lovemaking becomes a true Holy Communion that supports our intention to transform our intimate relationship into Spiritual Path.

You may achieve Spiritual Relationship without Sacred Sex, but what a missed opportunity for the mutual healing couples can impart on each other. For seekers without intimate partners, I suggest you learn the principles and practices of both Spiritual Relationship and Sacred Sex on your own and for own well-being. Tantra instruction will provide you with ancient and contemporary tools for sexual healing. Additionally, the process will energize and empower you in a way that you will find yourself attracting relationships and enjoying more choices.

I wish you all the love in the world. I wish you the love Rumi speaks of in this poem:

There is some kiss we want with our whole lives,

the touch of Spirit on the body...

At night I open the window

and ask the moon to come

and press its face against mine.

Breathe into me.
